Biographical Information |
| Born in New York City of Irish and Welsh-Irish parentage, Morgan Llywelyn is an Irish citizen who lives in Ireland year round. Her work covers a wide area of interests. She writes deeply researched mainstream historical fiction such as LION OF IRELAND, GRANIA, and THE LAST PRINCE OF IRELAND, but has also retold the great Irish myths in BARD, RED BRANCH and FINN MACCOOL. In addition, she writes a certain amount of pure fantasy. Her novel THE ELEMENTALS falls into this category, as does her work in collaboration with Michael Scott.
Many of Llywelyn's earlier books are in the process of being re-issued by Tom Doherty Associates, 175 Fifth Avenue, New York, N. Y. 10010. These include THE WIND FROM HASTINGS, LION OF IRELAND, THE HORSE GODDESS, and BARD. Llywelyn's books have sold throughout the world and are reprinted in a number of languages. The most recent foreign sales include LION OF IRELAND, THE HORSE GODDESS, and RED BRANCH - to Russia. Four of her novels are currently optioned for motions pictures. These are LION OF IRELAND, BARD, GRANIA, and THE LAST PRINCE OF IRELAND. Morgan Llywelyn is also the only woman to have walked both the breadth and length of Ireland on her personal feet. From Malin Head to Mizen Head was 427 miles, walked at the peak of the hottest Irish summer in living memory. "It meant walking over 30 miles a day for sixteen days with no break," she says. "We raised a lot of money for charity...that sort of thing is very much a part of whatever I am."
In addition to writing, Llywelyn is also Chairman of the Irish Writers' Union.
